ABA Scotland - Assisting Children with Autism to Aspire
Autism

Autism is a spectrum disorder, which means that children can be affected in varying degrees by a range of impairment within the following areas:

  • Social Communication: difficulty with both verbal and non-verbal language
  • Social Interaction: difficulty expressing their own feelings and emotions, as well as those of others
  • Social Imagination: difficulty in developing imaginative play, anticipating danger, coping with unexpected change as well as new and unfamiliar situations.

There is currently no cure for autism. Parents usually notice impairments in the above areas during the first two years of their child's life. Early behavioural intervention can help children gain self-care, social, and communication skills. One such early behaviour intervention is called Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), which is the only treatment programme for children with autism or other developmental delays with proven results supported by years of research.
